Is herbal tea healthy?

In modern times, it is becoming increasingly popular to drink herbs and herbal tea for everyday ailments or for health reasons. But does this actually work and is herbal tea healthy for you? It is important to take this seriously. Sometimes people think that because herbs come from nature, they are all healthy and harmless. This is certainly not the case. On the contrary there are also herbs with special attributed effects.

You might have noticed that years ago a lot of information was online about the working of different herbs. With a bag of herbal tea in a web shop, you could read extensively about what it was supposed to be good for. Due to strict rules, among others from the European Union, it is no longer allowed to name such activities. This is now subject to strict requirements, including approval, as is the case with medicines. Not everyone agrees with this, because they feel that important aspects of some herbs may no longer be mentioned.

Websites that do not sell herbs themselves are still allowed to provide information about the efficacy attributed to certain types of herbs. However, if they, for example, advertise for web shops where they can be bought, these websites are already in violation. As a result, the amount of information that can be found online today is much more limited. Some common medicines also work with a herbal exponent. But this is then a proven effect that has been approved by a monitoring body.

But how do I know if a certain herbal tea is healthy, or which herb I should use for different ailments? Often it is the case that, if you ask your question to a company or specialist, they may answer you based on their knowledge. This is not public information, but they only answer your question. So if you are looking for a certain herbal remedy, you can always consult a specialist. Think of a chemist, a pharmacist or for example a natural doctor.

As indicated before it is not wise to use certain herbal remedies without gaining information. Although these are natural products, some herbs can have unwanted effects. Sometimes they do not work well together with certain medicines for example, or in large quantities they can cause unwanted side effects. If you only want to use scientifically approved herbs, you can find an overview online.

Especially very common herbs are scientifically approved. This is simply because the costs involved are high and a company naturally wants to recoup these costs if they have the herb approved. Therefore, on the list of approved herbs you will mainly find very well-known herbs such as chamomile, lavender or valerian. However, there are thousands of different herbs with as many attributed activities. If this interests you, there are many websites, books and reference books full of information about known and unknown herbs.

When buying herbs, make sure they are of good quality. Apart from the work this also influences the taste and for example the presence of additives. Low quality tea may contain unwanted additives and have a sour or bad taste. Also pay attention to how the herbs are cut. If you want to make tea from a certain type of herb, it is useful if it has been cut. On the other hand, too fine a grind is also not practical, as you may end up with small pieces in your tea.

There are also many mixes and blends for sale nowadays. Sometimes these have names which suggest that they have a particular effect. For example, tea for a good mood, a calming effect or tea that ensures a good night’s sleep. This is usually based on the presence of an approved herb to which this effect is attributed. Whether the efficacy is present or not is very personal. Some people swear by certain teas, others say that they do not notice any effect at all. The world of herbs and herbal teas is large and special. Not everything is known yet, which is why it is seized upon by many people, both in a positive and in a negative way.

With a subject like herbal tea, it is advisable to always read the reviews before making a purchase. With this you can find out what the experiences of others have been who preceded you. Consumers who write reviews are generally very honest and have little reason to provide false information. Of course, this only applies to verified reviews. This does not offer any real guarantees, but it does give some guidance when making certain choices in the field of herbal tea. Also the shop where you want to buy your herbal tea undoubtedly has reviews on the internet. With this you can prevent that your order is disappointing or that for example the quality of the herbs does not meet your expectations.
